The funeral service that caters for everyone’s needs

David John Begley

(13th May 1954 - 18th April 2021)

In loving memory of David Begley who died on the 18th of April 2021, aged 66 years old.

He leaves behind his loving wife Sharon Begley, the girl next door who would become his partner for 30+ years & their only son, Luke Begley.

David was born in Frimley Children’s Hospital to Phyllis & Michael Begley. He was raised not too far away in Camberley on the Old Dean estate with older brother Phillip Begley.

From an early age he had a keen interest in motorcycles owning a range of scooters, road bikes & off-road bikes. He picked up the skills to repair them & found himself gravitating towards engineering. This was something he would continue with the enrolment into the Royal Academy of Engineering as a teenager in 1970. David graduated in 1974 as an Apprentice with lifelong friends Richard Cooper & Lawrence Peake. Richard would later have David as his best man for his wedding.

Continuing his career in engineering he went on to work on planes including the Concorde. Later he would move into sales becoming a rep for various furniture companies. While working he would also be gigging in the evenings. A bass player & avid musician he was involved in numerous bands throughout his life.

Ranked as a first class marksman in his youth, a blackbelt in karate in his 30’s & a successful businessman his 40’s he was a true renaissance man. He started one of the first online businesses selling furniture with wife Sharon. Something many, even manufacturers, thought would not be possible, but he succeeded none the less.
He had a wicked sense of humour was a warm presence at any gathering. Friendly & approachable he enjoyed a conversation with any & everyone.

Sadly he was ill throughout much of his life suffering from many ailments with his lungs. A horrific motorcycle accident left him with lasting pain & a broken back that required surgery. Even though all the adversity he still kept his joyful attitude to life. He passed away at home in his chair strong until the end.

He will be missed greatly by friends & family.

Due to Covid restrictions he will be having a limited funeral at the Guilford Crematorium on the 4th of June at 15:45. Please accept our sympathies for those who cannot attend. There will be a webcast for those who would like to watch the service with details below:

A Few Kind Words...

“Thank you for the care and support you gave to us all at the funeral of Annette Streetley, we did appreciate you kindness as we first stepped through the door at your Claygate branch and the days following. I know Tony, Rachel & Andrew were extremely grateful”

David & Betty Wakeford

To Lisa and all at Greenwood’s
Thank you for all the care and professionalism you have shown whilst caring for my Dad.
Thanks also for being so wonderful whilst looking after Diane and me, we are so grateful,
you took the pressure away from us during a very stressful time.

Sally and Diane

“Dear Jo,

Thanks so much for all you did leading up to the funeral. None of us could have got through it without your support.

Many thanks for everything you did for us, for all your help and for making a very sad day so easy. Your support has been amazing.

A huge thank you. Your dedication made saying farewell to Mum all the more bearable.”

Sue, Vicki, Clare & Richard

“Thank you so much for the way you took care of Loui’s funeral for us. You really went the extra mile, we are really grateful for all your help with the arrangements with Louis and Mum.”

Sheila, Kenny & Family

“The family would like to thank you and the whole team at Greenwood’s for your warm and professional service. We were delighted with your attention to detail and the relaxed but respectful manner of the Attendant and Bearers on the day itself. Many of our friends commented on the ‘dignity with lightness of touch’ and said it was one of the best-organised funerals they had attended. It was certainly a very different experience from my father’s funeral twelve years ago, and we shall recommend you wholeheartedly to others.”

Carole Day and Family

“I would like to say a huge thank you to both Carina at Alan Greenwood and Sons in Frimley and the Celebrant. When my mother-in-law passed, we had absolutely no idea what we were doing other than needing to contact a funeral directors. After calling, Carina invited us into the Frimley branch for an informal chat and made us feel at ease straight away. She talked us through every step whilst being compassionate, caring and professional during the whole process. It was a difficult time that was made so much easier by the way Carina and Maria handled everything. When the Celebrant contacted us we were unsure of what we wanted for the service, with his knowledge and understanding he helped us to put together a service that was both relaxed, professional and perfectly suited to us. Thank you to the whole team!”

Sarah

“We would like to thank you very much for looking after Mum and for all the arrangements you made for her funeral last Thursday. Your professionalism, help and ready advice together with your sensitivity at such a difficult time was much appreciated by us all. Our best regards.”

Nigel, Colin Ian & Coraine Ferguson

“As a family we cannot thank you enough for all your care and support of us on the passing of our mum – Peggy Hart on October 19th and her funeral on October 31st. As we know from the past, you do a wonderful job and all the staff are so caring and compassionate. Carol you are a rock (dare I say Star!) as you guided us through so much and helped keep us on track.

The day went off so smoothly and well. Mum looked good and would have so enjoyed her last ride in the jag! Also she would have been pleased at Alan leading the way, as Dad – Bill thought so highly of him and always spoke of him in glowing terms when he was alive and said he was a great guy to work with.

Thank you, thank you, what more can I say. I just wish you had offices in Canada so when my time comes, I know I would be in such excellent caring hands.”

Maggie & Mike Raftery

Dear Mr Alan Greenwood, I cannot thank you and your team in Bookham enough, for the excellent service they provided in every respect in the Cremation of my wife.

Your resident Funeral Consultant Mary fully explained all we needed to understand and advised the options available to us.

Her in depth knowledge of all the service providers including, Order of Service, authors and print selection, Celebrant, Hall and refreshments.

So many things which without her I would have been lost.

In the past few days I have received so very many complements and praise for the service you gave.

Do please allow other potential clients to share our experience.

Yours sincerely
